I am pursuing a career in mass communication. Initially, I was interested in being a news caster but I came across a free course provided by Reuters and Meta on digital journalism. This got me thinking if doing the future of digital journalism course would be a wise decision ? I mean what are the pros and cons of it, is it more reliable than the traditional journalism ?
You must have made a decision by now, as it's pretty obvious why digital journalism is the right place to be currently. As mentioned above, it is indeed a sustainable choice but apart from that, it has a lot of space to offer for new aspiring journalists. Traditional journalism is flooded with overrated news reporters and tv presenters. The modern side of journalism has vacancies; if you apply for one now, you will be able to hold the place in superiority. However, the pay scale is another debate.
Following the thread, one of the core reasons why digital journalism is growing popular, is because it is graphically strong. Readers do not only get informed but can enjoy high-definition, images and videos supporting the story. It also allows the audience to be informed, while they are on the go. While being stuck in car traffic or getting delayed while taking a bus, the digital print ensures, that the news reaches to the consumer in minimum and real time.
It is an era of revolution. This is an accurate future of digital journalism definition, if you would ask me. It is not only eco-friendly and easy-to-access but needs very low cost for distribution. You can share any kind of content to a editor sitting in a different location than yours in few seconds. A traditional newspaper is restricted by borders but digital journalism is not. Lastly, the news is accessible everywhere and almost by anyone who is on the internet. It is a fast and innovation medium to educate people about the happenings around the world.
Well from what I know, digital journalism is the newest kind of media, and a lot of people are turning towards it for two reasons. One, it is eco -friendly as it allows to exchange information without chopping down trees and wasting papers. Secondly, it has low entry criteria, anyone with a laptop or smart phone and WI-FI can open an online news room. I would say the digital journalism future jobs are more vast and less competitive in contrast with the traditional one.
Aha, It makes sense what are you saying. These points got me leaning toward being part of the future digital journalism degree programs.
